How I Discovered the Power of Color

Hi! I'm Ashlee, and I'm obsessed with color: the symbolism and frequency it holds, and its power to transform how we see and feel about ourselves. My infatuation with color began while on a journey to reconnect with myself—a journey through motherhood.

Before becoming a mother, I was a young professional living out my dream of writing and editing children’s books for a prestigious publisher in Washington, D.C. I was full of energy, and color splashed through my wardrobe. When my husband and I moved back to our home state of Indiana to start a family, I became a mother at 35 and took a break from work to stay home with our daughter.

Although we made many beautiful and happy memories during this time, it was also one of the most challenging periods of my life. I experienced prolonged postpartum anxiety and depression, and I chose comfort over fashion. My daytime wardrobe shifted to leggings and oversized shirts in various shades of blacks, whites, grays, navies, and beiges. I became a ghost of my former self.

Motherhood didn’t just shift the foundation of who I was; it demolished it. In this transition of who I was becoming, I lost all connection with myself—my intuition, my confidence, my self-belief, all of it.

I began studying energy healing modalities, and throughout that two-year journey, color found its way back into my life. I began to feel a strong repulsion toward all the neutrals in my closet and yearned for color. Around that time, a friend introduced me to color analysis, and my obsession took root.

Color analysis was the final step that secured the reconnection to my authentic self. I began to feel beautiful in my own skin, as I am, which gave me the confidence and self-belief to set and achieve new goals and dreams—with my husband, our daughter, and in life.

I got certified as a color analyst through the International Image Institute, and now I'm excited to bring color analysis to Bloomington, Indiana. I hope you enjoy the power of color as much as I do!
